What are your favorite plays or stories?

I am a novice playwright and am thinking about using the story or general message of a clic play to create an adaption in my own story while giving my ode to the recognition of that play. I am not a huge fan of recycled and imitated work but to give you an idea of what I have in mind...The Lion King would probably be a good example, which is loosely based on Hamlet. please if you would, share your favorite plays or stories that hold a special spot in your heart so that I can hopefully adapt a story that people can relate to and holds a universal, everlasting appeal.
