Should I make an audition CD?

You can record your audition CD yourself with some relatively inexpensive recording equipment and burn the CD on your computer. Try some different venues, e.g. small recital hall, practice room, etc., with your voice alone to get the best acoustics available before you invest in the accompanist's time. Generally, the purpose of the audition CD is as a companion submission with an application for a master cl or university/conservatory program. Some of these applications will even specify what they want on the CD, so it's best to record and burn the CD yourself. The applications always ask your age and for your parents' signatures if you are a minor. The jury of professionals evaluating your CD will take everything into account. Your status as an intern with the MN Opera and a letter of recommendation from the director will help too.
